Conservative party manifesto commitment to implement discounted rail travel for UK veterans is now in its final stages before launch and is now available for pre-registration.

The government announced the railcard will be made available on or before 21 November 2020 in line with Armistice Day (Remembrance Day) – marking the end of hostilities during the First World War.
Discounted rail is the Office for Veterans' Affairs' (OVA) first step in providing lifelong support for all those who have served.

The new railcard will enable veterans to get a 1/3 off the price of rail travel – including a 1/3 off for one spouse or friend also travelling with them. A 60% discount will also be applied for up to four children travelling.

A single annual veterans railcard will cost £21 for an introductory period (first year), before the price is then increased to £30 for a 12-month period thereafter.

There will be an option to purchase a three-year railcard for an introductory price of £61 – if purchased before 31 March 2021, increasing to £70 a year after.

You will also be able to download a digital version of the railcard to your smart phone.
