Can I Make a Plevin Claim? What is Mis-sold Plevin?

We all know about the PPI scandal which refunded more than £38 billion to British consumers. The PPI refers to the additional “payment protection insurance” which was mis-sold on everyday financial products such as things like mortgages, loans and car finance.

When brokers and companies were selling you PPI, there should have only been a maximum of 50% commission added, but in some cases this was more, with the average amount of commission charged at 67% or some as high as 80%.

“Plevin” is essentially that gap in overcharged commission and now thanks to Susan Plevin who took Paragon Personal Finance to court and won – and the green light from The Financial Ombudsman – you can get this commission back through a Plevin claim and receive 8% on top in compensation as well.

Mis-sold Plevin Example:

If you had borrowed £10,000 over a 5 year term and this was before 2019 from a bank or lender, your refund would be around £500 in Plevin.

Am I Eligible for a Plevin Claim?

  • You have never claimed PPI
  • Your PPI claim was rejected (around 1.2 million people)
  • You had a PPI refund but did not include the Plevin commission
  • You bought PPI before 6th April 2007 and it is still ‘open’ after 6th April 2008
  • You bought PPI after 6th April 2007

What is The Deadline to Make a Plevin Claim?

There is no deadline for mis-sold Plevin claims, unlike the deadline for PPI which was issued. This means that you can make a claim for Plevin anytime, with no end date in sight. But the earlier you make your claim, the faster it will be processed and more likely that it will be successful. No doubt that once Plevin becomes more mainstream, it will become very saturated and companies will be more reluctant to honour refunds.
